Vancouver Public Library’s Redesigned Rooftop Garden
Twenty-three years, to be exact. The project, which took four years to plan and roughly two to complete, brought back the team who designed the original library building and its closed to the public green roof : renowned Canadian architect Moshe Safdie and landscape designer Cornelia Oberlander who, even in her late nineties, is still going strong. Other foliage includes lavender and honeysuckle, and seating is provided via benches made from Brazilian walnut: a wood known for its resistance to rot essential in rainy Vancouver.

Grab A Book & Celebrate Family Literacy Day (January 27th)
The list required librarians and analysts spend more than six months looking up every title in its catalogue to see how many times each one had been borrowed. Circulation data, best-seller lists, archives and awards were all crunched to help determine its Top 10 list. But first, a few notes. Because the VPL only started being able to track circulation numbers by title beginning in , the list they provided only covers borrowing that took place in the past 16 years.
The original English language title has been checked out a total of 10, times in the past decade and a half.
The Vancouver Public Library is opening a takeout option for readers, which takeout from select VPL locations across the city,” reads the VPL website. Adults and children alike will be able to enjoy an extended due date.
Library cards will expire if not used for more than a year. MCPL wants to be sure that your contact information is up-to-date and that any fines or fees are paid. The main reason for tourists to visit this must-see Vancouver landmark is to take in its remarkable architectural design. The design by Moshe Safdie was the people’s favourite from a design competition and it is truly inspirational, both inside and out. Construction was completed in The exterior design of this nine story library complex resembles the present state of the Roman Colosseum. The library complex occupies a full city block and is surrounded with an elliptical, colonnaded wall that contains reading and study areas linked by bridges to the main portion.
